Time for the in-depth part of the Film sub-site. each film in this (and associated pages) relates to a decade in the life of Roger Moore's acting career. Emerging as a star in the 1950s in films such as 'Last Time I saw Paris' and 'Diane', it was the start of a career which has spanned 5 and a half decades - and currently shows no sign of stopping!

To set the scene somewhat I have taken it upon myself to try and summarise the period in which Roger was making these films while also giving you access (through links) to in-depth reviews of each film as they become available and appropriate trivia and cast information. Hopefully you will enjoy reading this as much as I have writing it.

The 1950's was a bizarre period for film, as many actors were coming through having either served during the war or been deeply affected by it. Rationing was just ending and political changes were in force on both sides of the Atlantic. A young Roger had left the army and had been working inconsistently on screen and stage - unfortunately these turns in classical acting were not as successful as he would have hoped. It is during the early 50's that Roger met and married his second wife, Dorothy Squires - at the time a relatively successful singer in the UK.
With the support of his new wife, Roger moved to America, and began a short affiliation with MGM - like many stars at that time. The primary films of this period were Diane (1956), The Miracle (1959) and The Last Time I Saw Paris (1954) - the latter with Elizabeth Taylor.

A difficult period to describe I feel that with the full impact of a growing global picture business, for many actors the only option was a contract with a large screen presence e.g. Universal or MGM. As the decade ended due to contracts many actors found themselves relegated to TV - however for Roger this would proove his lucky break (see TV section).

The following films are those I am aware Roger has appeared in - whether as a bit part or as a priniple character. each link - when available - will open a new window with appropriate details and a review of the film, plus any extra details like cast/crew etc...
