Maverick - Roger's Second notable US show - ran over 5 seasons and as such had a significantly larger supporting cast of regular characters. It is the aim of this page to introduce you to the actors behind the characters - just as with The Alaskans page. Lets get started!! Cast List:
Mini Biographies: James Garner: D.O.B.
07.4.1928 With a career spanning 5 decades James Garner is better known for his role as Jim Rockford from The Rockford Files. It was Maverick whihc brought James to the attention of the many studio bosses, however during the 60s, while president of the Screen Actors Guild his career did suffer due to conflicts over contracts. But like Jim Rockford he persevered, and forged a career in both TV and Film. Most notable roles include The Great Escape, Victor/Victoria, and more recently Space Cowboys. Jack Kelly: D.O.B.
16.10.1927 Durably handsome actor of rugged films and TV, a child performer on radio and stage. Best remembered trading quips with James Garner's Bret Maverick as less laidback brother Bart in the late 50s. He ran for city council and won the first of two four-year terms in 1980. One of his most famous screen appearances outside of his apparent typcasting was as Lt Jerry Farman in Forbidden Planet 1956. Robert Colbert: D.O.B.
16.7.1931 Playing Brent Maverick was one of many roles in a varied career, which saw Robert working in recent series' such as Baywatch and Frasier. Starting work during the late 50's his TV based work has been significantly more prolific than his screen appearances which are mostly B-Grade movies. One interesting link to Roger fans is that Robert worked with Roger on The Alaskans in episode White Vengence as Shawn. Other notable credits include Hawaiian Eye and 77 Sunset Strip. Diane Brewster: D.O.B.
11.3.1931 Playing a number of character roles on both the small and large screens her career is a short one after retiring in 1966 following her final appearance as kate Lawrence in The Young Philadelphians. Sadly she died of heart failure in 1992 at the age of 60. A notable piece of triva h her playing the murdered wife of Richard Kimball in The Fugitive (1963). In 1983 however she returned to the screen in Still The Beaver, a spin off to Leave It to Beaver Other notable roles include Sylvia Quentin in Pharoh's Curse (1958) and numerous parts in 77 Sunset Strip. Efrem Zimbalist Jr: D.O.B.
30.11.1918 The son of the concertpianist of the same name, Efrem trained at the Yale Drama School and the Neighbourhood Playhouse. His first real break came as he worked on stage with Spencer Tracy on The Rugged Path (1945). Arguably the most varied of the bunch - with regards to his career - Efren has been stage producer for Opera performances on Broadway, among other things - winning the New York Critic's Award and the Pulitzer Prize for best musical in 1950 for The Consul. With a long standing career on both Stage, and Screen he has performed with a number of the big names including Errol Flynn, Spencer Tracy and Audrey Hepburn. It certainly appears as though acting and performance runs through the family - their daughter, Stephanie, is the well-known actress who appeared with Pierce Brosnan in Remington Steele. Efrem continues to work giving his voice to a number of TV characters for both TV, TVM and film - with Batman as his most noticable in recent years. What is interesting is his contribution to the voice of Wolfgang in Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers - a very well recieved and acclaimed PC Gme made in 1994 (at a simillar time to other FMV games like Ripper with Christopher Walken and Wing Commander with Mark Hamill). Richard long: D.O.B.
17.12.1927 After leaving school Rbert quickly signed onto Universals books and becam a useful asset playing many juvenile and young parts. Slowly moving through the ranks he enver because a major lead but he was often used in 'second feature' leads - something we aren't as familiar with in the UK. Oneof his most notable roles on the big screen was as Lance Shroeder in The House on Haunted Hill (1959). This however was not what he was best known for - smaller, TV roles were more his forte starin in both the western series The Big Valley and the comedy Nanny and the Professor. A notable fact is that by marriage he became the cousin of Lucille Ball of I Love Lucy fame. Richard Long: D.O.B.
02.12.1922 A large, burly character with a strong physique he held a screen presence which was intimidating and menacing. It would be a fiar comment to say that a large amount of thise came from his stint in San Quentin prison for Robbery and is used to great effect in Riot in Celllock 11 (1954). Breaking against this typecasting however he proved to be an apt screen writer (WW2 film Tobruk) and director as well as a compassionate actor as seen in The Intruder. Peter Breck: D.O.B.
13.3.1929 While currently living in British Colombia with his wife it is fair to say Peter has certainly had an interesting time acting in Hollywood. One of his starring roles was as Nick Barkley in The Big Valley which earned him the title of the toughest cowboy on TV - and with rumours that he could draw a pistol at a rate of 16/100 of a second this is perhaps a well earned mantle. It appears he also had his revellious side which is highlighted with 2 events with 2 of Hollywoods biggest thrill seekers - James Dean and Steve McQueen. The former rode with Peter though a New York restaurant lobby on a motorcycle while Peter races Steve down one of Los Angeles swerviest public routes. Edwin Reimers: First
Role: Hard Fast and Beautiful 1951 as Announcer Searching for Edwin on the internet throws out some interesting information. The most ntable being that little is knwon - getting detailed iographical information is very difficult an therefoer if anyone knows anything about Edwin please let me know atthe normal address. Information I dd find was that 2 notable roles come in the form of the Announcer for The Munsters ep. 2.2 Herman the Master Spy (1964) and Star Trek (1966) ep 2.15 The Trouble with Tribbles as Admiral Fitzpatrick.
