1966 - Before getting to these episodes, I shall continue the trend of giving you all a miniature head spin - lol! Ok, 1966 stands out for a rather important reason - we won the World Cup; yes, the one and only time - despite our not so best efforts to reclaim the trophy based purely upon the arrogance of some overpaid and under worked members of the British populace. Anyway, enough about that. This was the year that saw The Saint, and other notable shows, move into colour - even if the majority of homes still had a black and white tele!

Whilst Simon Templare continued to entertain young and old, a new competetor was coming from the US... "These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise...". Yes the most immortal words on TV, Captain Kirk, Spock and the crew burst onto our screens in episode The Man Trap, to trigger a global phenomenon only partly shadowed by the Jedi Religion appearing on the National Census! Star Trek XI is preparing to continue this phenomena, and I suspect it will return to a TV soon.

In literature adn film, the Sound of Music collected its Best motion Picture award, whilst Alfie - one of Michael Caine's signature roles - was released. Truman Capote's "in Cold Blood" was released (now a major motion picture - click here for details). The king of children's cartoons Walt Disney passed away this year.

In other areas, Botswana and Guyana were given independence, India suffered horrific famine and Billie Jean King reigned supreme at Wimbledon whilst the DNA code was deciphered by Har Khorana.
