1968 - Since so few episodes of The Saint were aired in this year, I shall do a minor summary of the year before the finale of the show in 1969. In general, Vietnam was still raging with 2 key events - the Tet Offensive which was a key turning point in the war, and the massacre of 347 civilians at My Lai. The Russians invaded Czechoslovakia, and martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated; whilst in the UK Billie Jean King continued to reign supreme at Wimbledon collecting another title.

In film, James Bond was about to change as the hunt was on following Connery's decision to move on. 1969 would see the release of On Her Majesty's Secret Service starring George Lazenby in his only outing as Bond (shame really) - see personal review. In other areas, Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey was first released to acclaim, although it was beaten to Best Picture Oscar for that year buy Oliver! and Barbra Streisand made her film debutin Funny Girl.
